I remember when I was a kid my grandmother would sleep with a knife under her bed and she did this until the day she died. I never forgot that but as a child I could never understand why. Now I understand.... This book put a lot of things into perspective. Every Greek should read this book and learn their history.

A captivating story that depicts the best and the worst of mankind during a dark period in world history. It is a testament of the author's strength and courage to relive this awful period of time and share it with the rest of us. I read the e book but will be backing it up with the paper copy!

Very intriguing story. I have read a lot about WWll and the tragedies it brought but this is my first in relation as to what was brought upon the Greek people. This is one family's tale but I am sure it reflects on how the Greeks as a sole were mistreated during and right after the conclussion to the war

Every survivor story needs to be told
by Sue Beatty

Every survivor story needs to be told to silence those who deny that the Holocaust ever occurred. This well-written memoir gives us a little known account of another country that suffered from the Nazi atrocities. It's educational and a must read for all.

Amazing story of survival

I never knew there was a Greek Holocaust. Amazing story of survival.

"A powerful story of a family and country that was in the grip of war and its hardship. They survived to come out on top."~Anita L. Arietta, West Milford, NJ

Reviews

We published “Miseries of Occupation” in March 2016. Since then we have garnered many 5-star reviews on Amazon.com. Here is what people are saying about the book:

Highly recommend.
by Antonio Marquez

As something of a WWII history buff, I was mesmerized by this memoir as told by the author, a genocide survivor. The Nazi occupation of Greece is – as I found out by reading this fascinating tale – and was every bit as harrowing and perilous and destructive as the occupation of other countries in Europe which may be more well-known such as Poland or Italy. I know I was not as aware as I might have been about not only Nazi-occupied Greece with all its atrocities but also about the bloody civil war that followed. More people should be aware of what happened in Greece during those years. There are many poignant parts to ‘Iasona’s’ story that tugged at my heart. Highly recommend.

This is a fascinating book! It is a gripping story about one young man's fight to survive the Nazi occupation - similar in a way to Anne Frank. I recommend this well written book to everyone!

Liked the e book well enough to purchase the paperback

Liked the e book well enough to purchase the paperback. Give it a read because history repeats itself if you are caught unaware.

And, since Amazon cannot accommodate reviews from everyone, here are a few additional reviews we have received from readers:

“I thoroughly enjoyed this memoir. The author had many normal childhood adventures but there were many events that were sadly only normal for a war-torn country like Greece was during WWII. A few that made an impression -- the episode of the cave where his family fled when the Nazis arrived at his village and the time he took off to find his father but lost his way taking refuge in a resistance encampment, or the encounter he had with a Nazi collaborator while tending his family’s goats.

The courage required to endure these hardships under Nazi rule as a child, but still he was able to acquire an education and become successful is truly inspiring.” ~Ruth B. Logan, Newfoundland, NJ
